Marc Chagall Lithographs We Consider

We consider signed and numbered color lithographs, documented proofs, unsigned original book lithographs and complete portfolios. Subjects include lovers, bouquets, biblical scenes, village life and the circus. Acquisition interest depends on the individual artwork and its edition.

Signed, Unsigned and After Chagall Editions

A signature alone does not identify the edition. Original lithographs, interpretive works after Chagall and reproductions require different comparisons. Charles Sorlier helped print Chagall’s original lithographs and also produced interpretive lithographs after his compositions; the specific work must be identified.

Type of workWhat we review
Signed and numbered lithographHandwritten signature, numbering and correspondence with the documented edition.
Unsigned original lithographPublication, paper, dimensions and whether the edition was issued without individual signatures.
Proof impressionProof designation and its place within the edition. A proof is not automatically worth more.
Lithograph after ChagallWho made the lithograph, its publication and signature status, including documented Sorlier editions.

Paper, Dimensions and Catalogue References

Paper and dimensions vary by edition; documented examples include Arches and BFK Rives. Mourlot and Sorlier references help identify lithographs, while Cramer covers illustrated books. Send sheet dimensions when accessible, distinguishing them from the frame or visible opening. Leave framed artwork in place for an initial inquiry.

How much is your Chagall lithograph worth? The exact edition, color freshness and condition matter. See our Marc Chagall value guide for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sell an unsigned Chagall lithograph?

Yes, we can review unsigned examples. Some original lithographs were issued without individual signatures, particularly in publications. We identify the edition before discussing acquisition interest.

Do you consider complete books and portfolios?

Yes. Photograph all compositions, the title and justification pages, and any original covers or cases. Let us know about missing sheets or materials.

Does fading affect the evaluation?

Yes. Fading, staining, foxing, trimmed margins, tears, mounting and restoration can affect value. Send photographs in even light without filters and mention any known condition issues.

Can photographs establish authenticity?

Photographs help us begin identifying and evaluating the work. A final purchase decision may require additional records or physical inspection.
